The four Portrait lenses as a complete graph: every lens connects to every other lens, six edges total, each carrying the durable skill(s) that live on that border. Durable skills, standards, and instructional strategies are plotted inside the shape by their lens blend — drag through the tabs to see where each lives.

How points are placed (read before you trust a position)

Each item gets a weight on every lens it touches — 2 for its primary/anchor lens, 1 for each additional lens it also carries — normalized to sum to 1. The plotted point is the weighted average of the four corner positions using those weights (a convex combination).

This is a one-directional convention, not a true coordinate system. On a triangle (three lenses), a point inside reads back uniquely as one blend — that's what makes Sentient Design's triangle work. On a four-cornered shape, that uniqueness guarantee doesn't hold: different blends can in principle land near the same point. Read position as "roughly this mix," confirmed by the exact percentages in the detail panel — not as a precise inverse of the dot's location. Points are also pulled in slightly from the true boundary so a dot's own radius never spills outside the shape, even for an item that's 100% one lens.

Effect-size tiers (Strategies/HLIS tab)

Tiers are split on Hattie's own hinge point (d = 0.40) \u2014 his average effect size across the Visible Learning meta-analyses, i.e. roughly what a typical year of teaching (or just maturation) already produces on its own. A strategy has to clear that bar to be doing more than the baseline.

  • Strong — d \u2265 0.60
  • Moderate — 0.40 \u2013 0.59
  • Weak — below 0.40
  • Not cited — no Hattie figure was published for that strategy in the source HLIS document; this is not the same as "weak," it just means no number exists to tier

Where the source cites a range (e.g. "0.46–0.90") the midpoint is used to assign the tier; the full cited range is still shown as the ES figure.
